The Pirates are looking to rebound from a weekend sweep at the hands of the Phillies, back in the NL Central and facing the Cardinals tonight.
Joe Block has a preview.
The Pirates were swept by the Cardinals at PNC Park last month. Neither of tonight’s starting pitchers, Mitch Keller nor Matthew Liberatore, pitched in that series.
The Pirates have not officially filled the roster spot left open when they sent Nick Yorke to Indianapolis, but multiple sources report it will be outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia, who is batting .375 since returning from a back injury, including going five-for-five with three home runs in his first game back at Indy.
The Pirates have also promoted hot young prospect Murf Gray to High-A Greensboro after the third baseman hit .359 with eight home runs and 34 RBIs with Low-A Bradenton. Gray was a Competitive Balance “B” selection, 73rd overall last year.
ALTOONA
The Altoona Curve open a six-game home series against Erie. Matt Ager starts for the Curve.
