The Pennsylvania State Police will establish a new “political violence threat unit” as part of its strategy to address an increasingly troublesome political environment and a recent communication breakdown following a threat against twenty Democratic legislators.
Acting State Police Commissioner Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens announced the new unit in a letter to the leaders of both the House and Senate last Wednesday. Its sole mission will be investigating threats against elected officials, working with the State Police Tactical Intelligence Unit.
Adam Berryhill, of Lebanon County, was charged last week with making the threats against the twenty lawmakers. His social media account pictured a gun and mentioned a “Memorial Day operation.”
