A Pennsylvania Supreme Court justice and Pittsburgh native is citing growing antisemitism as his reason for leaving the Democrat Party.
Justice David Wecht announced Monday he is no longer a registered Democrat, writing that “hateful anti-Jewish invective and actions” are being “minimized, ignored, and even coddled” inside the party. In a statement on the decision, Wecht says Jewish hatred is becoming more commonly accepted among antiwar activists, party leaders, and even elected officials affiliated with the Democrats. Wecht said this includes Nazi tattoos, jihadist chants, and “intimidation and attacks at synagogues.”
Wecht said he will be an independent moving forward and noted the change is being made in a personal capacity and not on behalf of the court.
