Betty L. Gressley, 93, of Penn Run, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026.
Born on October 27, 1932, she was the beloved daughter of the late Albert and Sarah (Straw) Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Peck” Gressley and her sister, Dorothy Cannizzaro.
Betty was a woman of deep and abiding faith who dedicated her life to her church and family. She was a faithful and active member of Harmony United Presbyterian Church for over 70 years where she served as Sunday School Primary Superintendent, teacher, and most recently as the treasurer. She also shared her love of music by singing alto in the church choir for many years.
She worked at McCreary Tire and later in the Purchasing Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she was known for her strong work ethic and kind spirit.
Above all, she cherished her family. She is survived by her two daughters, Lori (Dick) Lavanish and Karen (Ron) Alsop. She was a proud and loving grandmother to four grandchildren, Adelle (Tim) Dolney, Evan (Amanda) Lavanish, Ian (Courtney) Lavanish, Jordan (Julie) Alsop and a devoted great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren, Ella, Mia, Easton, Arlo, and Kade. She rarely missed an opportunity to attend their sporting events and activities, and if she couldn’t be there in person, she was cheering them on from home. She is also survived by her sister, Mary “Peggy” Dickey, and a niece, nephews, and cousins.
She had a love for sports, especially football and basketball, and could often be found watching games on TV. She also enjoyed completing word searches, reading, and journaling every day. Known for her sweet and loving nature, she brought warmth and joy to everyone around her. She had a fondness for simple pleasures, including her daily Diet Coke and favorite Nutty Buddies.
She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, gentle heart, and deep love for her family.
Visitation will be held at the McCabe Roof Funeral Home, 565 Franklin St., Clymer, from 2:00-6:00 pm on Monday, May 11, 2026. Additional visitation will be held at 10:00 am at Harmony United Presbyterian Church, Penn Run, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 followed by a service to celebrate her life at 11:00 am by Pastor Donna Kanouff, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Harmony Cemetery, Penn Run.
