IUP SOFTBALL
IUP softball edged Shepherd, 3-2, in their PSAC Tournament opener yesterday in Binghampton, New York. IUP finished with seven hits, with Reagan Rand’s triple being the only one for extra bases.
IUP will play East number two Shippensburg at 12:30 this afternoon. The Raiders entered the tournament ranked No. 1 in the Atlantic Region by the NCAA. IUP and Ship split their season series.
Senior outfielder Maddie Griffin is this year’s PSAC Softball Champion Scholar, for being the top student-athlete competing in the conference postseason. She’s IUP’s second student-athlete to earn the honor this academic year, joining football’s Freeman Wilson.
Griffin majored in accounting and graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA. She is currently pursuing her MBA at IUP.
IUP BASEBALL
West second seed IUP baseball takes on East number three Shippensburg tonight at 8:30 in the PSAC Tournament at Slippery Rock. The two teams have not played each other this season.
