State officials are recommending a merger for a few fire departments in Westmoreland County.
A report from the Department of Community and Economic Development determined that the New Stanton, Youngwood, and Midway-Saint Clair fire departments should be consolidated. The study also states that the departments would split operating costs based on population and call volume if the plan is approved.
The New Stanton Council is expected to decide whether to form a committee to look into a merger during today’s meeting.
