Today is deadline day for NFL teams to pick up the fifth-year options of the first round picks from the 2023 draft class. That means the Steelers have to make a decision on injured tackle Broderick Jones, and several published reports indicate that they will not pick up the $19.1 million option. If they don’t, Jones will play this season as a pending free agent, unless he agrees to a contract extension with the Steelers.
Jones suffered a season-ending neck injury in the Steelers loss to the Bears on November 23rd. He missed the final five games of the regular season and the playoff loss to Houston. He underwent spinal fusion surgery in December.
