The IUP Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree program has been approved by the State System of Higher Education Chancellor.
This marks an important milestone for the proposed College for Osteopathic Medicine at the university so that it can be added to the school’s offerings. IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll said in a statement that he has seen a lot of enthusiasm for the project throughout the state. He said, “This action continues our strong momentum to move forward in our work to open the first college of osteopathic medicine at a public university in Pennsylvania, reflecting our commitment to address the critical shortage of physicians, especially in rural communities.”
The proposed college currently holds “candidate status” with the American Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation. The next step is pre-accreditation, which would allow IUP to actively seek students.
