Clearfield County commissioners say they have no authority over the Moshannon Valley Processing Center, responding to public concerns about conditions at the federal immigration facility.
According to GantNews.Com, following complaints that included allegations of a hunger strike, officials said no strike occurred and that fewer than 10% of detainees missed a meal. Commissioners emphasized that the facility is operated under federal oversight by GEO Group, employs more than 400 local workers, and houses about 1,400 detainees in an 1,800-bed capacity.
While acknowledging concerns about inmate care, officials said they maintain contact with facility administrators but cannot control daily operations or close the center unilaterally.
