Paul Skenes and Konnor Griffin had big nights last night as the Pirates blanked the Milwaukee Brewers 6-0. Griffin celebrated his 20th birthday by hitting his first home run in the big leagues as part of a three-hit, three-RBI game. After the homer, Griffin got the silent treatment from his fellow players in the clubhouse when he put on the welder’s mask, but that didn’t last long as the team celebrated with him. Griffitn knew something had to be coming.
Paul Skenes went seven innings, allowing only one hit and notching seven strikeouts to pick up the win. No save was recorded but Mason Montgomery and Isaac Mattson locked it down in the 8th and 9th innings, holding the Brew Crew without a hit for the final two innings.
The Pirates and the Brewers play again this evening. Airtime is 6:45 on WCCS with first pitch at 7:10.
In the minors, the Altoona Curve fell to the Harrisburg Senators 12-6 last night. Harrisburg put 10 runs on the board across the 6th, 7th and 8th innings to put the game out of reach. Dominic Perachi tossed five strong innings but left in the sixth inning after a leadoff double. Shawn Ross had a solo homer for Altoona. The two teams will play again tonight. Khristian Curtis will start for the Curve.
