BASEBALL
Conemaugh Township and Northern Cambria played six innings of scoreless ball before the Indians broke through for three runs in the top of the seventh, then held on for a 3-1 win, the second time this week that CT topped the Colts in a showdown game. Colin Dinyar drove in a run in the seventh, and Bryce Conn drove in two. Greyson Studer had two hits for the Indians. Dinyar spun a three-hitter, striking out eight and walking two, outdueling Reese Wagner, who scattered seven hits and struck out 9 in six-and-two-thirds innings.
Purchase Line downed Marion Center, 8-5. Stephen Peruso and Christian Moyer each had three hits for the Red Dragons and Matthew Johnston had two. Marion Center was led by Camden Rising, who had two hits, including a homer, and drove in three runs.
West Shamokin scored in every inning, with a five-spot in the fourth to close out River Valley, 11-0. Christian Davies-Buffone tallied three hits, and Kash Julius and Nick Krizmanich each had two for the Wolves. Liam Scripps gave up one hit and walked two while striking out five on the mound.
United took a five-run lead into the bottom of the fifth and held off Cambria Heights, 6-3. Brendan James had three hits, with two doubles, for the Lions. Carson Lobick had two hits, and he and Nolan Clawson both homered for the Highlanders.
Portage outscored Conemaugh Valley 11-9. Tyson Burkett and Brayden Ciokota each homered for the Mustangs. Burkett, Lucas Shuniak, and Jordan Klein each had two hits for Portage, and Gavin Buchan had three hits for the Blue Jays.
Charlie Manzi and Ethan Shank both doubled and both drove in two runs and Chase Force drove in four as Indiana beat Taylor Allderdice, 10-5, in a non-section game.
SOFTBALL
West Shamokin is 14-0, 11-0 in the Heritage Conference after routing River Valley, 10-0. Leah Mondi threw a five-inning one-hitter, and at the plate, she had three hits, with a triple. Cameron Vandervort had three hits and Abbi Kimmel and Elena Gourley each had two.
A sacrifice fly by Bekah Marshall scored Khylee Beer with the game-winning run as Homer-Center walked-off Penns Manor, 8-7, after the Comets had scored three runs in the top of the inning to tie the game. Marshall homered and tripled and drove in five runs for the Wildcats, and Beer, Bri Birchall, and Isabelle Rowland all had two hits as well. For Penns Manor, Jillian Kuzemchak and Kendra Pavlovski each had three hits, and Kadence Olbert and Macey Pegg each had two.
Purchase Line pushed across a run in the bottom of the 6th to beat Marion Center, 7-6. Julia Matko had two hits and Lillian Stauffer drove in two runs for the Red Dragons. Macie Miller and Natalie Black each had two hits and Gracynn Silvis drove in two runs for the Stingers.
A ten-run fifth inning broke open a 6-6 game and Cambria Heights beat United, 16-6, in five. Rylee Lane and Margaret Elias both had two hits and both homered for Heights, and Alyssa Miller and Hallie Hayes each had three hits while Carlie Jo Bachik had two. For United, Ella Worthington had two hits, including a home run.
Izzy McCabe and Alyssa Yahner each homered and nine Northern Cambria batters had hits in a 14-3 win over Conemaugh Township. Makenna Riley, Josie Johns, and Lily Zern all had two hits for the Indians.
