IUP has announced the hiring of Marco Pecora as offensive coordinator and Lance Getsy as tight ends coach.
Pecora was the offensive coordinator and associate head coach at Saint Francis, where he’s coached since 2018 and also served as defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator. He’s a 2013 IUP grad who played safety for the Crimson Hawks after earning three varsity letters at Pitt.
As the new O.C. for coach Paul Tortorella, Pecora gets to work with a group of highly touted quarterbacks, led by Ohio State transfer Mason Maggs, a 6-2, 226 pounder who has one year of eligibility, with an application to the NCAA for a second year.
Maggs says he is enjoying his time at IUP, on campus and on the field.
Maggs was recruited to IUP by former offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr. He says the Cignetti name is significant and that played a role in his decision to come to IUP.
Maggs says he can deliver for IUP, whether it’s throwing the football or running it.
Getsy comes to IUP after eight years coaching in high school, at Charleroi and at Franklin Regional. He played his college football at Slippery Rock. He’s the older brother of Luke Getsy, the former IUP offensive coordinator who is now the offensive coordinator of the Green Bay Packers.
JACK BENEDICT, THE VOICE OF THE CRIMSON HAWKS, TALKS WITH NEW IUP QUARTERBACK MASON MAGGS.
