Clearfield County commissioners are disputing claims of a hunger strike and contaminated food at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center, saying an illness that sparked concern among detainees was diagnosed as influenza, not foodborne.
According to PennLive, 50 to 70 detainees initially refused a meal after the incident but reported no further complaints over the following days, adding that meals are routinely inspected before distribution.
The response comes after an immigrant rights group alleged that nearly 100 detainees protested conditions, citing reports of spoiled food and inadequate medical response, and called for the county to end its contract with the facility.
