The NFL draft is here. Round One takes place in Pittsburgh Thursday night. The Steelers have the 21st-overall pick.
Meanwhile, the Aaron Rodgers debacle is far from over. NFL insider Tom Pelissero told the Rich Eisen Show over the weekend that he has “no anticipation” that Rodgers will announce his decision to return to the Steelers before the draft.
The Bengals are taking advantage of a premier player’s wish to change teams. Cincinnati acquired Dexter Lawrence from the Giants on Saturday in exchange for the 10th-overall pick in Thursday’s draft. The defensive tackle was given a one-year, 28-million-dollar extension following the deal and is now under contract for the next three seasons. New York moved on from Lawrence after the sides reached an impasse in negotiations last week.
A hopeful prospect is landing in hot water ahead of Thursday’s NFL draft. Georgia authorities say Zachariah Branch was arrested early Sunday morning on two misdemeanor charges, including obstruction of a law enforcement officer. Athens police say the former Georgia wide receiver blocked a public sidewalk which led to the incident. Branch is expected to go as early as round two in the upcoming draft.
