Two Indiana University of Pennsylvania alumni are continuing their support for the school with a major donation tied to a proposed medical program.
University officials announced that Jere Cowden and Dr. Sharon Tahl Cowden have contributed 50-thousand dollars to support IUP’s planned college of osteopathic medicine.
The gift is part of the university’s ongoing “Impact 150” fundraising campaign, which aims to raise 150 million dollars during IUP’s sesquicentennial celebration.
School leaders say the proposed college is designed to help address a growing shortage of physicians, particularly in rural communities. IUP has already secured tens of millions of dollars in support for the project and continues to move through the accreditation process.
The university says the Cowdens’ donation reflects both their personal connection to IUP and a broader effort to expand healthcare access across the region.
