PennDOT is highlighting new efforts to modernize transportation across the Commonwealth.
The agency announced today the release of its annual “Focus on Innovations” publication, which outlines more than 30 initiatives either launched or continued over the past year.
According to PennDOT, those efforts focus on improving safety, efficiency, and long-term costs. Among the highlights are new pavement techniques aimed at reducing potholes, expanded use of digital and 3D design to speed up construction projects, and new safety technology like improved barriers, lighting, and message boards in work zones.
The report also points to larger projects, including a proposed passenger rail connection between Scranton and New York City, and continued expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure statewide.
PennDOT says the publication is now available online, where drivers can also find real-time road conditions through the 5-1-1 system.
