The Pirates fumbled away their game with the Nationals yesterday, with both the defense and the bullpen failing again.
Joe Block has the story.
Manager Donnie Kelly liked the Pirates’ persistence in a tough game.
Kelly says starter Braxton Ashcraft threw well.
Ashcraft says the outcome wasn’t what he wanted, but the effort was there.
Updates yesterday from Pirates senior director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk:
- Infielder Jared Triolo has resumed most baseball activities and will run the bases in Bradenton next week as he works on returning from a knee injury. He went on the injured list on April 5th.
- Pitcher Jared Jones will soon pitch his first simulated game in his return from elbow surgery. He could throw six simulations, including live batting practices, before the team sets a rehab assignment schedule.
ALTOONA
Altoona lost for the twelfth time in a row to start the season, 7-0, to Portland. The Curve could only manage four singles at the plate.
They will try for elusive win number one tonight, with Po-Yu Chen on the mound.
