The Penguins closed the season with a third straight loss, but with about a third of the lineup resting and a group of youngsters replacing them, including rookie defenseman Jake Livanavage, who was signed as an undrafted free agent last weekend.
Paul Steigerwald recaps the night in St. Louis.
The NHL still has announced the playoff schedule for the Penguins, who will play the Flyers in the first round.
Coach Dan Muse has some decisions to make, including whether it’s Stu Skinner or Arturs Silovs in net for the series opener, and whether or not two injured Penguins, Connor Dewar and Blake Lizotte, will be ready to go.
Muse was happy with the way Livanavage played, especially with no practice time since his signing last Friday.
Forward Anthony Mantha is ready to start the playoffs.
Mantha is happy the regular season is over, especially since the Pens had nothing to play for in the last week.
Livanavage was a Penguins fan growing up in Arizona and even got to meet Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin at a game in Phoenix. He says playing for the Pens is a dream come true.
The Penguins will not practice today.
