Monday night, the Indiana School Board approved changing the ranking system for seniors from the valedictorian system to the latin system.
Starting with the class of 2030, seniors will be awarded Cum Laude honors for grade point averages from 3.8 to 3.999, Magna Cum Laude for 4.0 to 4.199 and Summa Cum Laude for anything 4.2 and above. Superintendent Rob Heinrich said that eliminating the valedictorian position and recognizing students with the new system will allow them to pick classes in their field without hurting their chances for recognition at graduation.
In other business, the board also revised the district calendar for a half day for students on June 5th and a full day for teachers on that same day.
