While the weather is going to be pleasant for the next few days, fire crews are vigilant for any brush fire calls as conditions are near-perfect for a small fire to turn into a large one.
The 23rd brush fire for Indiana Conty in 2026 was reported yesterday afternoon in Green Township. But crews all over Indiana County have seen brush fires pop up through the year so far. Homer City fire department 1st Assistant Chief Joe Iezzi, Jr. said that he would not like to see people burning trash right now. One reason is that the ground is still dry despite the green color that’s now visible.
He advises that if people do need to burn brush, people should wait for a day that’s not windy, use a burn barrel or other item to contain the fire, and to remain by the fire at all times.
