At last night’s meeting, Penns Manor Superintendent Dr. Daren Johnston said that the administration is continuing to work on the budget and reducing the now $1 million deficit.
One of the ways that Johnston says they are looking to improve their financial health is to try to entice families of students attending outside cyber schools to return to either the Penns Manor Cyber Academy or their brick-and-mortar school by offering a financial incentive if they stay for a year. Johnston said that the return of those students would help reduce the budget deficit.
The board will also look at increasing property taxes and not replacing certain positions as ways to fill the gap. A preliminary budget will be presented to the board next month.
The board was also informed that the Penns Manor Foundation has received a$10,000 grant from Dick’s Sporting Goods Foundation. The money from the Sports Matter Grant will go towards the purchase of new scoreboards for the elementary gym.
