t was the first time in the big leagues that Konnor Griffin and Paul Skenes played together. Kelly says the two of them, and the rest of their Pirates teammates, are seeing the results of their hard work.
General Manager Ben Cherington declined comment yesterday on an ESPN report last week that the Pirates are finalizing a $140 million, nine-year contract with Griffin. He cited team policy, but did say he has a “level of hope, potentially,” that a deal will be worked out.

Cubs starting pitcher Cade Horton is out for the year and will have either Tommy John reconstruction or an internal brace repair on his elbow. He runner-up in the NL Rookie of the Year voting last season.
Astros ace Hunter Brown is out at least the rest of the month after being diagnosed with a Grade Two right shoulder strain.
Former Pirate Johan Oviedo will have his bad elbow examined by the doctor who did his Tommy John surgery three years ago and will miss “significant” time.
