It was a good Thursday for the Pirates, with a win on the field and a new contract for their star centerfielder, Brian Reynolds.

Roansy Contreras pitched three innings of five-strikeout, one-hit, one-walk ball for his first MLB win. Manager Derek Shelton says it was a special night for the rookie.
Daniel Vogelbach was happy to get the four hits, but happiest of all that the Pirates won.
Reynolds avoided arbitration by signing a two-year, $13.5 million contract, and then went out and got two hits, including a homer. He says the Bucs are making moves to become a winner.
Reynolds said he was glad to avoid having to go to arbitration.

ALTOONA CURVE
Altoona built a 3-0 lead and was still up, 4-2 in the seventh inning, but Richmond got to reliever JC Flowers for three runs in that inning and beat the Curve, 5-4. Lolo Sanchez and Andres Alvarez each hit homers for the Curve, which will send Mike Burrows to the mound tonight for game four of the series.
