United and West Shamokin split a home-and-away doubleheader yesterday at West Shamokin. The Lions won the first game, 10-0 (as the home team), scoring five runs in the 6th inning after plating two in the second and three in the third. Ben Tomb was 2-for-4 with a home run and Joe Marino and Isaac Worthington each had two hits. Tomb allowed one hit and five walks while striking out 13 over five innings and Marino finished up with a scoreless 6th, striking out the side on 10 pitches.
In the second game, with West Shamokin as the home team, the Wolves took a 10-4 first inning lead but were down, 13-12, after three. They tied the Lions at 13 in the fourth, took a 15-13 lead into the seventh, and survived after giving up a run in the tip of the seventh to win the game, 15-14.
Grant Johnston, Niko Buffone, and Lou Swartz each had two hits for West Shamokin. Swartz had a triple and drove in three.
Tomb, Marino, Wade Plowman, and Caden McCully each had two hits for the Lions, but only two of the Lions’ 14 hits were for extra bases, both doubles.
