Outside of the two reported shootings, Indiana Borough Police responded to 84 calls for service Saturday night. Multiple large gatherings were seen starting at noon, with some of them blocking portions of Rice Avenue and Washington Street. As the afternoon gatherings ended, some fights started in the 200 block of Rice Avenue, and the crowd did not disperse, forcing police to move in the area. In addition to the fighting, an investigation of disorderly gathering is open and ongoing. Another large gathering was reported in the 500 block of Philadelphia Street around midnight, resulting in that street being blocked. Law enforcement officials were needed to break things up around 2:00 AM.
Police charged eight non-IUP students with crimes including disorderly conduct, public intoxication, simple assault and harassment. Three students were charged by borough police as well.
University Police reported 12 calls for routine service along with a missing person who was eventually found, a blue-light phone activation, fights in dorms, and five traffic stops.
State police said they had 10 DUI arrests and four drug arrests on Saturday.
