Pirates catcher Henry Davis had gone 0-for-spring training entering Saturday’s game against the Orioles, but he broke the slump with his first hit in 18 at-bats, a 396-foot leadoff home run in the first inning, later adding a walk and a hit-by-pitch, as the Bucs beat the Orioles, 8-6, in Bradenton.
Marcell Ozuna hit his first homer of the spring, a 3-run shot for the Pirates. Nick Yorke and Ryan O’Hearn each had two hits for the Pirates, who play the Tampa Bay Rays in Port Charlotte today (1:00 airtime on WCCS), with Jose Urquidy getting the start.
Pirates non-roster invitee Chris Devenski was at home and resting comfortably after taking a 103-miler-per-hour line drive off his head Friday night in the Bucs’ win over the Tigers. Manager Donnie Kelley reported, “Nothing firm on any diagnosis, but he’s at home resting and doing as well as he can.”
