Several residents at Wednesday night’s Clymer Borough Council Meeting said they would like to see and hear a new fire siren for the community.
The siren has been out of daily operation since 2024, and some citizens last night said that the siren would be beneficial. This was spurred by the fire that happened last month that took the lives of a father and two children on Hancock Street. Borough Council President Louis Tate said that the response from Clymer Fire Department was very quick.
Clymer Fire Department president Haley Mumau said that after several repairs from 2019 to 2024, they determined it was not a responsible use of funds to fund the upkeep as firefighters have pagers and apps that notify them and “the siren no longer serves an operational purpose for the Company.”
In other business from Wednesday night, council approved a resolution to authorize Berkheimer and Associates to share data for EMS Fee collection with the Indiana County Municipal Emergency Services Authority and approved the purchase of new bleachers for Sherman Street Ballfield at a cost of no more than $8000.
