The Steelers lost versatile tight end/H-back Connor Heyward yesterday, as the free agent signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. Also leaving Pittsburgh is speedy wide receiver Calvin Austin III, who will sign with the Giants, and special teams captain Miles Killebrew, who has agreed to terms with the Buccaneers.
Former Gateway High School and Penn State star safety Jaquan Brisker has signed with the Steelers after four years with the Bears. Brisker agreed to a one-year deal worth $5.5 million. A run-game stopper, he started all 52 games for which he suited up in his time in Chicago. His only significant injury was a severe concussion that cost him the final twelve games of the 2024 season, but he returned to start all seventeen in ’25.
Mike Tomlin made his first public comments since resigning as Steelers coach last night as he accepted the Patricia Rooney Community Impact Award at a dinner in Pittsburgh. Tomlin said “It’s been an honor to serve the greatest organization in sport…” in gracious comments about the team, the city, and his family. He said he is “extremely blessed” to have been able to coach in Pittsburgh for nineteen seasons.
