Wednesday night, the Penns Manor School Board received an update on the 2026-27 budget.
During his report, Superintendent Daren Johnston said that the $1.5 million budget deficit from the initial estimates was brought down to close to $1 million. This was related to budget adjustments made along with three retirements that were approved during the meeting. Johnston said they are continuing to look at ways to bring the budget into line.
In other business, negotiations are underway between the district and the PMEA. The first negotiating session was held earlier this month and another session is scheduled for March 17th. The board also approved the ARIN IU operating budget, which comes to $4,609, 675. Penns Manor’s share is $23,044.
The board was also updated on the activities of the Indiana County Fife and Drum Corps, who were organized to help celebrate the nation’s semiquincentennial this year. The group of students from Indiana County’s School Districts will be headed to Philadelphia for their Independence Day parade, which will be July 3rd. A small group of students from Penns Manor joined their teacher Paul Rode in playing for the board. You can watch that performance in the player below.
