A Pennsylvania lawmaker is proposing a temporary suspension of the state’s gasoline tax to provide short-term relief to drivers.
Lisa M. Boscola, a Democrat representing Lehigh and Northampton counties, announced plans to introduce legislation that would pause Pennsylvania’s 57.6-cent-per-gallon gas tax for 60 days. The proposal would allow the state to use bonds to offset lost revenue so funding for the Pennsylvania State Police and transportation infrastructure projects would not be affected. Boscola also plans a similar measure to suspend the state’s 74.1-cent-per-gallon diesel tax. A previous version of the proposal introduced in 2022 did not pass the legislature.
