Democrats are expected soon to try and halt President Trump from using further military action against Iran without Congressional approval. At least one Democrat, Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, says he’ll be a “no” if the War Powers Act comes up for a vote because “Operation Epic Fury” was needed.
Fetterman speculated that many Democrats are going against the operation agasint Iran simply because they dislike Trump. The War Powers Act is a 1973 Vietnam-war era resolution meant to check the president’s power to enter armed conflict without consent from the Legislative branch. A vote could come by Thursday. The effort is largely seen as symbolic, because even if passed, Trump said he would likely veto it, and Congress would need a two-thirds majority to override that veto, which there’s currently not.
