Governor Josh Shapiro joined the secretaries for the state departments of Education, Health, and State along with legislators and local leaders to announce an initiative that will help protect people from predatory Artificial Intelligence practices.
At a roundtable held at the Carnegie Clubhouse of the Boys and Girls club of Western Pennsylvania, Shaprio said that several state agencies collaborated on the creation of an AI Literacy Toolkit to help state residents safely use AI resources, and is expected to address benefits, risks, and real-world impacts for kids, seniors, those with intellectual disabilities and those facing mental health and substance abuse challenges. The Governor also announced the creation of an AI Task Force at the department of State and the establishment of a formal complaint and reporting process for AI-powered bots that may be engaging in unlicensed professional practice. He said hie is also working closely with Attorney General Dave Sunday to strengthen consumer protections related to AI companion bots.
Sunday doubled-down on that support, saying he embraces the collaboration and will remain an active leader in combating dangers posed by artificial intelligence. He says his office will continue to share information and resources with other agencies and keep referral channels open for investigations by respective agencies.
