Non-roster invitee Shawn Ross clobbered a two-run home run out of LECOM Park in Bradenton yesterday giving the Pirates a 6-4 win over Derek Shelton and the Minnesota Twins.
The Bucs took a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Jake Mangum and Spencer Horwitz hit back-to-back doubles, a run scored on a double-play ball by Marcell Ozuna, then after an Oneil Cruz double, Nick Gonzalez hit an infield single, and a throwing error on a Gonzalez stolen base scored the third run. But Jose Urquidy gave up three runs on two hits and a couple of walks in one-and-a-third innings. Horwitz, Cruz, and Gonzalez all had two hits for the Pirates.
Mitch Keller gets the start for the Pirates today against the Orioles, who will start former Pirates top draft choice Shane Baz.
