The Penguins had the day off yesterday and the team did not provide any update on Sidney Crosby’s condition, with the Team Canada captain recovering from an apparent right knee injury suffered in the Olympics.
The Pens return from the Olympic break tomorrow night at home against Jack Hughes and the New Jersey Devils.
President of hockey operations Kyle Dubas yesterday swung another trade, sending defenseman Brett Kulak to Colorado for defenseman Sam Girard and a 2028 second-round draft pick. Kulak played only 25 games for Pittsburgh after being acquired in the Tristan Jarry trade with Edmonton on December 12th. The stay-at-home defenseman had settled in as Kris Letang’s partner on the second defensive pairing, with a goal and six assists. Girard is more of an offensive defenseman. He had three goals and nine assists for the Avalanche this season.
Kulak is an unrestricted free agent after this season. Girard is under contract through next season.
