State representative Jim Struzzi and Senator Joe Pittman have announced that over $230,000 in funding for fire departments and ambulance services is coming to Indiana County.
That money is coming from the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program. The grant can be awarded for up to two projects in diverse categories such as facilities, equipment, debt reduction, training, training and education materials, recruitment and retention, construction savings account, and costs associated with career departments. Indiana Fire Association will receive the most out of this disbursement with $16,000. They are just one of seventeen departments to receive funding. Citizen’s Ambulance Service will also receive $15,000 from the grant effort.
The funding comes from an ongoing grant program created by the Legislature and administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner. All funding comes from the proceeds from slot machine gaming, not General Fund tax revenue.
