Tuesday night, Indiana Borough Council granted preliminary approval for the Sheetz project.
Sheetz wishes to leave their current location and take over the lot where the former Rite-Aid Pharmacy was located across the street. While no reason was given as to why they are moving, Stiffler-McGraw project manager Bill Sauserman said that preliminary approval was the first part in a two-step process, as the borough approved the layout for the site.
Construction crews will demolish the former Rite-Aid building and the new store will contain gas pumps like it’s predecessor.
In other business, council approved the 8th Street Action Plan as a framework for improvements to the 8th Street corridor, and approved a notice to proceed with Gibson-Thomas to proceed with work including an analysis of traffic signals on Philadelphia Street from 4th to 8th. This is part of the effort to have those lights go to a four-way red to allow pedestrians to cross the street safely.
