The Pirates’ full squad will officially report to spring training today and have their first formal workout.
Yesterday, former Bucs ace A.J. Burnett was in camp at the invitation of manager Donnie Kelly. Burnett will observe and mentor the Bucs’ young hurlers, who make up one of the major leagues’ most exciting pitching staffs.
Cy Young Award winner Paul Skenes says if you want to win, surround yourself with winners, and Burnett is a winner.
Burnett attended a pitchers’ meeting and watched bullpen sessions, chatting with some of the young arms, especially Bubba Chandler, whose fiery personality is a lot like what Burnett brought to the mound.
The Pirates’ first exhibition game is Saturday in Sarasota against the Orioles. They’ll play the Phillies on Sunday in Bradenton.
