The Penguins’ Sidney Crosby has another record, this one in the Olympics. Crosby on Sunday became the all-time leading points producer for hockey in which NHL players were participating, with 15. He had a goal and two assists in Team Canada’s 10-2 win over France.
The U.S. hockey team on Sunday beat up Germany, 5-1, with Auston Matthews scoring twice. At 3-0, the U.S. has earned the number two seed in the knockout round, which begins tomorrow. Canada is the top seed, also 3-0 but with a much higher goal differential after they battered France.
Team USA will play the winner of tomorrow’s game between Sweden and Latvia.
Los Angeles Kings star Kevin Fiala underwent surgery to repair fractures in his lower left leg after he got tangled up with Canada’s Tom Wilson during Switzerland’s loss to the Canadians on Friday. The Swiss were not happy with the awkward way Wilson hit Fiala. The controversial Washington Capitals forward also got into a rare Olympics fight with France’s Pierre Crinon yesterday after Crinon elbowed Team Canada’s Nathan MacKinnon in the face.
The U.S. women’s hockey team will face Sweden at 10:40 AM (our time) today with a trip to the gold medal game on the line. The Americans have outscored their opponents, 26-1, so far in Milan. Canada will clash with Switzerland in the other semifinal.
Team USA earned no medals in any sport on Sunday. They have five gold and 17 total medals.
