Indiana County is marking America’s 250th anniversary with a new year-long program focused on local history.
The Indiana County 1776 Speaker Series will feature free public programs throughout 2026, highlighting what life was like on Pennsylvania’s frontier during the American Revolution, with a focus on local communities in the late 1700s. A number of local groups are teaming up for the series, offering programs on topics like colonial farming, hunting, early settlement, frontier law, and how residents used natural resources. Organizers say the goal is to give people a clearer picture of how early settlers lived and worked in this region.
Participating organizations include the Historical and Genealogical Society of Indiana County, IUP Archaeology, the Pennsylvania Game Commission, and several conservation and agriculture groups. The Indiana County Tourist Bureau is promoting the events as one unified series.
Community members and visitors can find a full schedule of topics, dates, and locations at the tourist bureau’s website.
