The Road to the KCAC, Presented by First Commonwealth Bank, will decide the Heritage Conference girls and boys basketball championships tonight, with four Indiana County teams taking the court at the Ed Fry Arena at the Kovalchick Complex. The action begins with the Penns Manor Comets taking on the Marion Center Stingers for the girls title. Penns Manor finished first in the Heritage West and Marion Center was second, even though their records were identical, both with one loss. The Comets beat the Stingers in their first matchup and the Stingers avenged that loss last Friday.
Marion Center coach Amy Trimble says the conference championship game will help her team prepare for the intensity of the District 6 playoffs.
Trimble says it’s a great matchup.
The Comets’ Jason Miloser has taken a very young and inexperienced group of girls and watched them grow into championship contenders.
Miloser says Marion Center is loaded with offensive weapons, led by Macie Miller, but they play hard defense too.
Undefeated United will face River Valley for the boys championship. The Lions won the Heritage East and the Panthers took the West, and United won their only head-to-head game this season, 60-50 a month ago.
United coach Matt Rodkey says The Road to the KCAC is quite a journey.
Rodkey says the two teams are primed to put on a good show tonight.
River Valley’s Rick Spallone says the Panthers took a run at the Lions in their first meeting, but United’s depth helped them get the win, and proved that they’ve got more than just Carter Payne and Ryan Felix.
Spallone says the Lions are a tough matchup, but he has faith in his Panthers.
The girls tip off at 6 o’clock with the boys to follow. We are on the air on Renda Digital TV at 5:15
