While it may still be too early to tell if flu season is almost over, activity related to the illness in Pennsylvania continues to decline.
The PA Department of Health reports 82,883 flu cases have been certified across the state since the start of respiratory virus season on September 28th, an increase of 5,612 cases over a week’s time. There were also 251 deaths reported for the season, an increase of 56 from the previous week. For the week ending January 31st, the percentage of emergency room visits resulting in a flu diagnosis is low for all age groups.
RSV activity remains stable, but it is still high in infants up to age four. 12,635 cases of RSV were reported statewide, an increase of roughly 1700 cases. Emergency department visits resulting in an RSV diagnosis was low across all age groups for last week.
For Indiana County, the Department reports 219 flu cases for the season as of the end of last month, an increase of 20 from the previous week. No new cases of RSV reported, so that total remains at 17 for the season.
