While Governor Josh Shapiro said he wanted to see minimum wage increased to $15 an hour, that move was voted down in a voting session of the full house yesterday.
The vote for a minimum wage increase was 100 against it and 98 in favor of it. The bill passed the House Labor and Industry committee on Tuesday, but yesterday’s vote shot it down. This came after Governor Shapiro commented in his budget address that the $7.50 minimum wage was hurting over a half-million state residents and would save the commonwealth $300 million a year on entitlement programs like Medicaid. Those against it say it would result in further price increases for goods and services and would hurt small businesses.
Both State Representatives Jim Struzzi and Brian Smith voted in favor of the bill.
