Penguins defenseman Caleb Jones got off to a strong start this season, but it’s been nothing but trouble since he suffered a suspected broken foot on October 23rd. After recovering from that injury and a separate injury suffered January 14th while rehabbing at Wilkes-Barre, Jones rejoined the Penguins after being cleared for contact this week, but now he’s been suspended 20 games by the NHL for violating the performance enhancing drug policy.
Jones says the positive test is probably from a medication he took during his rehab. He accepts full responsibility and will not appeal.
The Penguins play their final game before the Olympics tonight in Buffalo. Pregame airs on 92.5 FM U92 at 6, with faceoff shortly after 7. After tonight, they won’t play again until February 26th against New Jersey. And there won’t be much action in the front office either…the NHL trade freeze took effect at 3 PM yesterday and will last until 11:59 PM on February 22nd.
