Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro delivered his 2026-27 proposed budget to a joint session of the PA House and Senate earlier today.
The Governor focused on several points in his budget, including the energy sector. He mentioned that as a part of last year’s budget, the state removed itself from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. Shapiro said that some legislators used that as an excuse to not move forward on energy plans, and highlighted his lightning plan to build more energy generation in the commonwealth and to diversify the state’s energy portfolio.
Shapiro also advocated for raising Pennsylvania’s minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $15, saying that the current rate is hurting over a half-million workers in Pennsylvania. He also said that in the long run, raising the minimum wage will help save the state money.
Today’s address came only three months after the last budget was finally approved and signed into law — about three months late.
