It’s a big day at PNC Park today as the equipment truck has been loaded up and will depart for Bradenton, Florida for the start of spring training. Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report February 11th, although many are already at the Pirates’ complex working out. The first full squad workout is scheduled for February 16th, with the first spring training game on Saturday, the 21st against the Orioles.
The Pirates went hard after Eugenio Suarez, the power-hitting third baseman who hit 49 home runs last season for Arizona and Seattle, but Suarez has chosen to sign a one-year deal worth $15 million with the Bucs’ Central Division rival Cincinnati Reds. He played seven seasons in Cincy at the start of his career.
