The area’s high school basketball teams battled the weather, the lack of practice time, and ultimately, each other over the weekend and in the end, the Heritage Conference “Road to the KCAC” semifinals are set.
Marion Center’s boys completed the brackets with two wins on Saturday, coming from behind to top Homer-Center in the morning, 67-53. Kamden Rozier led the Stingers with 17 points, Hayden Fox scored 13, Alec Brudnock 11, and Colin Sacco 10. For the Wildcats, Nash Budner and Louie Rodman each scored 14.
Then on Saturday night, Marion Center took on Penns Manor, needing a win to clinch the second spot in the Heritage West. The Stingers rolled over the Comets, 76-52. Rozier went off for 32 points, nailing six three-pointers. Fox scored 18 and Brudnock 11. Vinny Myers had a great night for the Comets, with 29 points.
Monday’s Heritage Conference boys semis will feature Marion Center visiting undefeated United, and top West finisher River Valley hosting Conemaugh Township.
In girls action on Saturday, Marion Center took control early and blitzed West Shamokin, 54-25. Macie Miller scored 16 points for the Stingers, with 6 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists. Alivia Ruddock scored 13 points and pulled down 9 rebounds, and Natalie Black added 11 points with 7 rebounds. For West Shamokin, Aubrey Reefer scored 16 points.
In the girls semifinals on Tuesday, United will host Marion Center and Penns Manor will welcome Cambria Heights.
The “Road to the KCAC, Presented by First Commonwealth Bank” Heritage Conference championship games are Friday night.
The semifinal and championship games will all be on Renda Digital TV this week.
