While we are on the tail end of the severe snowstorm that has hit much of the United States, our area will not be out of the severe winter weather just yet.
The Winter Storm Warning for our area is expected to end at noon today, but an extreme cold warning will start at 7:00 tonight and run until 1:00 tomorrow afternoon for Indiana County and other parts of western PA and the surrounding areas. Dangerously cold wind chills of 25 below zero are possible, while higher populations could see 30 below feels-like temperatures. That could cause frostbite on exposed skin in 30 minutes or less, and could cause problems for any exposed plumbing.
AccuWeather Meteorologist Heather Zehr said that our area will not see much relief from the cold temperatures.
People are advised to dress in layers if they have to go out, including a hat, face mask and gloves. To prevent water freezing in pipes, wrap or drain them, or allow them to drip slowly in the overnight hours.
