Apparently, a PiratesFest without him was too much for Andrew McCutchen. The Pirates’ iconic slugger ripped into the team Saturday after general manager Ben Cherington implied, at least in McCutchen’s view, that the team is better off without him.
Cherington said that the Pirates have been “laser-focused” on building a team that has the best chance of winning, but the Bucs have not signed the free agent McCutchen. Cutch wrote on X on Saturday that he’s “not done, no matter what label (the Pirates) try to stamp” on him. He challenged them to “Rip the jersey off me.”
At PiratesFest, many players talked about the team’s improved roster and new players, including newly-acquired outfielder Jake Mangum, who said he loves the city and PNC Park.
Mangum is impressed with the Pirates’ potential at the plate.
Infielder Jared Triolo says the Pirates are stocked with players who bring the lunch pail to work and get after it.
Pitchers and catchers report to Bradenton on February 11th.
