The Penguins get their rematch with the New York Islanders tonight at PPG Paints Arena, after having lost to them, 5-4 in a shootout in New York on Tuesday.
Coach Mike Sullivan says they need to be on their game from the opening faceoff, unlike Tuesday when they were overwhelmed in the first period.
Faceoff tonight is scheduled for shortly after 7 o’clock, with the airtime on 92.5 FM U92 and the U92 Sportschannel at 6.
Tonight’s game will be the second missed by Evgeni Malkin as he serves his four-game NHL suspension for a cross-check to the face of Nashville’s Mark Borowiecki on Sunday. Malkin will also miss Saturday’s game in Boston and next Thursday’s game against the Bruins in Pittsburgh.
The Penguins and the Bruins will also be playing each other next year in the NHL Winter Classic. With New Year’s Day being on a Sunday and dominated by football, the game will be on the official national holiday, Monday, January 2nd, at Fenway Park, which is owned by the same ownership group that purchase the Penguins this season.
