A fire destroyed a restaurant near Ligonier last night.
Multiple fire crews were sent out to Ruthie’s Diner on Route 30 at 8:10 last night, just minutes after the restaurant closed for the day. Flames were seen coming from the roof of the back side of the building when firefighters arrived. They had to use both ground and aerial attacks to bring the fire under control, but the heat from it melted the siding off a neighboring structure.
Firefighters had to deal with the freezing cold temperatures along with the fire, but they did not have any water supply-related problems last night. One firefighter was taken to the hospital for treatment of a non-fire-related injury.
State Police Fire Marshals and Ligonier Valley Police are making their own investigations. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
